At Expo 2012 Yeosu, whose overarching theme was “Living Ocean and Coast”, Turkey, with the themes “civilisations on the shore of the sea and seas on the shore of civilisation – the country of civilisations uniting seas and continents –” and “water and sea, from drop to ocean”, referred to the environment we live in and, by emphasising impermanence and permanence through the metaphor of each human being a drop in the world, pointed out that each human will be reunited with the vast and limitless ocean in the afterlife. In architectural terms, the clear structure emphasising “robustness” expresses making the world livable and the permanence of civilisations and cultures; “transparency” expresses the transience and impermanence of man as an individual in this world; and the space consisting of wood and glass layers, symbolising earth and water, emphasises a togetherness built “without the other”.
